DOE monitors in real-time for dust (particulate matter) and Alpha/Beta Radiation. The real-time monitors are an early warning system for any possible releases.

The data from the real time monitors is updated weekly.

Note: The X-326 Process Building demolition has been completed as of 8/24/2023.

Particulate Matter PM2.5

PM2.5 is very small dust or droplets, also called particulate matter, that are two and one half microns or less. PM2.5 is measured at monitors A50, A51, A52, A53, A54, A72, X326-A01, and X326-A06.

Particulate Matter PM10

PM10 is small dust or droplets, also called particulate matter, that are ten microns or less. PM10 is measured at monitors A50, A51, A52, A53, A54, A72, X326-A01, and X326-A06.

Alpha/Beta

Alpha/Beta is an airborne alpha and beta radioactivity on dust particles. Alpha/Beta is measured at monitors NF-01, NF-02, NF-03, NF-04, and NF-05.

Air monitors are co-located by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Health, and the U.S. Department of Energy to detect any contaminants that might result from demolition activity on the Portsmouth Site.

DOE has a network of air monitors that collect data on airborne hazardous pollutants and radionuclides to ensure protection of people and the environment.
